Contraindications
For all saunas, the contraindications to their use are similar and irrefutable. There are, however, divergent opinions in research on pregnant women. Ganbanyoku belongs to the dry saunas, which are not as taxing on the body as those with much higher humidity levels. It would seem that they would be a beneficial form of relaxation and bring health benefits to mothers-to-be. However, despite various studies, doctors recommend approaching this with caution and choosing other ways to relax.
Contraindications to using Japanese saunas include any cardiovascular disease, an elevated body temperature (a sub-febrile state or fever), as well as sweat disorders. Menstruating women should also refrain from experiencing the benefits of these places, as the heat of the stones can aggravate menstrual bleeding. Ganbanyoku is also not advisable for people with hypersensitivity to higher temperatures, those suffering from haemophilia and those in alcoholic conditions.
